Supervisor of Wastewater Treatment Facility

Pay Range: $29.54 – $31.35 per hour, D.O.Q.

The Village’s Physical Services Department is currently recruiting for a Supervisor of Wastewater Treatment Facility.  This position performs work of moderate difficulty in operating and maintaining the Village’s Wastewater Treatment Facility (WWTF), and pre-treatment/wastewater programs.  This employee is responsible for developing job assignments, planning and directing work, and checking the performance of assigned Public Works WWTF Division employees. Must have proficiency to operate, maintain and repair WWT Facility, equipment and laboratory, and supervise the entire treatment system for conformance with established operational procedures and compliance with E.P.A. standards. Assists in division budget preparation recommendations.

 

The ideal candidate must have knowledge of EPA requirements for WWTF systems and programs and the ability to work rotating/evening/weekend/holiday shifts to maintain the 24 hr. operations of the WWTF. Requirements include at least two years of college or technical training in the areas of chemistry, biology, engineering or a related field and a minimum 5 years of experience in the wastewater field or related field including prior supervisory experience.1-2 years previous lead and/or supervisory experience.  Requires possession of an Illinois E.P.A. Operators Certificate, Class 1 Operator’s License and possession of a CDL or the ability to obtain a CDL within six (6) months.

SUPERINTENDENT - WATER/WASTEWATER DEPARTMENT

Position Summary

The Superintendent manages the operation and maintenance of the City’s water and wastewater reclamation facilities, including the potable water systems, SCADA, 10 sanitary pumping stations, storm water pumping stations and the city 8 mgd water reclamation facility. The position reports to the City’s Director of Water/Wastewater.

 

Qualifications

·         Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, civil engineering or a related degree field.

·         Minimum of five years experience in wastewater treatment plant and potable water supply operations and maintenance, including experience with lift station and water production operations.

·         Minimum of three years experience in a supervisory or lead capacity involving water and wastewater systems and operations.

·         Possession of a Class I Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator’s License and a Class “C” Public Water Supply Operator Certificate is highly preferred.

·         Possession of a valid driver’s license.

·         Superior communication and interpersonal skills.

 

Working Conditions

·         Exposure to noise, rotating machinery, dirt, grease, chemicals, oil, dust, fumes and temperature extremes.

·         Occasional lifting to 25 lbs. and ability to maneuver on catwalks, ladders and in manholes.

·         Position maintains 24-hour on-call availability for emergency situations.
